Hope Mountain Nurseries
Keep Calm and Garden on!
This beautiful high mountain plant is from a genus named after Merriweather Lewis of Lewis and Clark fame who first cataloged ‘Bitterroot’ in the High Montana mountains. We have a beautiful native variety here in the Illinois Valley that blooms among the rocky crevices where not much else seems to grow. ‘Sunset Strain’ is a bit more showing and blooms in all the colors of a beautiful sunset. The succulent leaves form a tight evergreen rosette. It loves the sun and HATES to be overwatered. I have a patch that I mixed a bit of pea gravel in with the soil and they are thriving. Grows 10″ tall and 18″ wide. Blooms start in March and continue through the end of June. Watch out they’re addicting….once you have one you’ll want all the colors! Sun. Perennial.
